Founder readiness
Most scaling problems aren't systems problems. They're founder readiness problems.
I've watched businesses install CRM platforms, build operating models, hire excellent operators, and define governance frameworks. None of it stuck. Not because the tools were wrong, but because the founder wasn't ready to let the system lead.
Founder readiness is the gating factor in any scale transition. It has nothing to do with capability or intelligence. It's about whether a founder can genuinely tolerate:
- Process over intuition
- Visibility over control
- Delegation over involvement
- Structure over experimentation
When the answer is yes, everything else is solvable. Governance lands. CRM becomes a behaviour, not a database. Revenue becomes predictable rather than heroic.
When the answer is no, no amount of tooling or talent closes the gap.
The question I ask before any engagement isn't "what systems do you need?" It's "are you ready for the system to run without you?"

Weber, Huntington and Fukuyama on the moment a founder-led business stops being a growth problem and becomes an authority problem.
The best thing an operator can do for a founder is give them their job back
The founder isn't holding on because they're controlling. They're holding on because the system that would make it safe to let go doesn't exist yet.
